Pat Simmons on Rider Nation day at The Curling Show. September 26th, 2010

Part Two of our Saskatchewan-centric day offers up a conversation with Pat Simmons that was recorded just a few days before his new lineup played its first event of the season, the Shoot Out in Edmonton. (They had a QF loss to a team that features former teammates Jeff Sharp and Chris Haichert.)

Pat Simmons during the BDO Classic Canadian Open. January 26th, 2007

It was another call to Winnipeg but this time we were talking to Pat Simmons, one of Saskatchewan’s best. During a break at the Asham World Curling Tour’s BDO Classic Canadian Open, Pat talks about the team’s ever-changing front end, gives his thoughts on eight end games and discusses the state of the game in Saskatchewan. Make it to the end of the interview to hear my thoughts on curling’s latest cresting flap.

Pat Simmons Interview. November 13th, 2005

We caught up with Pat between his first and second games in the Best Western Wayside Inn Classic in Lloydminster, Alberta. (Or is it Saskatchewan? I guess it depends which side of the street you’re on.) Pat talks about the team’s recent loss in the final of The National, their desire to win a major event, their 0-6 start this season and the fabulous shade of green in those Saskatchewan Brier jackets.

Just to make sure there’s no confusion about one section of the interview – Pat and I were talking about the awful banquet jackets the Alberta and Saskatchewan teams have to wear at the Brier. I recounted a story about running into Pat Ryan’s team at the ’88 Brier on the hotel elevator while they were wearing those fabulous jackets. Listening to the interview, it might sound like I was saying I was on Pat Ryan’s Alberta team which, of course, I was not. The Ryan Express handled our Quebec team pretty easily that year.
