Jason Gunnlaugson reflects on a very strange season. July 20th, 2011

A little over a year ago, Jason, Justin Richter and Tyler Forrest were decamping to Russia to be hired guns for that country. A few months later, the whole thing came apart. While others covered the story at the time, I wanted to talk to Jason now that he’s had some time to look back on the whole experience. And an experience it was.

Even if you’re slathering on the sunscreen right now, curling season is just around the corner. There’s a program that will help your game in Fit to Curl: A Sport-Specific Guide to Training for the World’s Greatest Game by Olympic Gold Medalist John Morris. Buy it at fittocurl.com and at your favourite pro shop.

Jason Gunnlaugson of Manitoba. Now possibly curling for Russia. April 28th, 2010

He loves the game like few others. To be a curler who can focus solely on improving his game, he’s willing to go to the ends of the earth. Or at least to Moscow.

We talked to Gunner a few hours after Gary Lawless reported in the Winnipeg Free Press that Jason, Justin Richter and Tyler Forrest are set to become three-fifths of a team supported by the Russian Curling Federation. Naturally, that’s the focus of our conversation.

Even if your curling won’t be supported by the Russians next year, the off-season is the time to get your training started with Fit to Curl: A Sport-Specific Guide to Training for the World’s Greatest Game by Olympic Gold Medalist John Morris. It’s available at fittocurl.com and at Chapters/Indigo/Coles throughout Canada.

Jason Gunnlaugson a few days after his team earned a spot in the Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings. November 19th, 2009

The skip of the young team that got the last spot at the Pre-Trials in Prince George and turned it into a spot at the Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings joined us for a conversation about their successful week and what lies ahead. This is Jason’s second time on the podcast and, as you might expect if you’ve seen him curl, he brings refreshing honesty and has great knowledge of the game.

Do you have your copy of Fit to Curl: A Sport-Specific Guide to Training for the World’s Greatest Game by John Morris? If you don’t, head over to fittocurl.com to purchase one. It’s an interesting read that will help curlers of all levels sweep more effectively, make a few more shots and feel better on the ice.

Jason Gunnlaugson, one of Manitoba’s top young curlers. December 15th, 2008

He’s one of the more animated players in the game and one of the hardest throwers on Tour. His team, with Daley Peters replacing Reid Carruthers at skip this year, has struggled this season but he remains an athlete I think we’ll see more of in the future.
