Rick Patzke of the United States Curling Association, a few days after the Vancouver Games. March 5th, 2010

There was no shortage of controversy for U.S. curling when it cames to the recent Olympics, stemming from sub-par records for the American teams, lineup changes and extensive media coverage. As he drove to Kalamazoo for this week’s U.S. Nationals, I talked to USCA Chief Operating Officer Rick Patzke about the events and articles of the last month and the changes he sees coming in U.S. curling.

Erin Carmody of PEI after the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. February 15th, 2010

I know it seems as though the entire curling world is focused on the Olympics but before the play got underway in Vancouver I wanted to talk to the last rock thrower on the team that came oh-so-close to capturing the 2010 Scotties Tournament of Hearts title. Erin Carmody talked about the week in the Soo, the final game and her team. And my apologies to the McPhee sisters — somehow I forgot to mention them when I was discussing the top women’s teams from the Island.

Peter Corner shortly before the Ontario Tankard gets underway. January 28th, 2010

He was part of the team that most would consider the greatest of the 1990’s — Russ Howard, Glenn Howard, Wayne Middaugh and Peter — but he’s also skipped the Ontario team in the 2000 Brier, been runner-up in that province the last two seasons and led his team to a record of 17-3 on the Ontario Curling Tour this year. Among other things, we talked about his veteran team’s limited schedule, his years with Russ Howard and his relatively short stint playing with Wayne Middaugh again a couple of years ago.

Ed Lukowich Interview. July 16th, 2007

After a break to enjoy the summer, we’re back with a conversation with two-time Canadian Champion, 1986 World Champion and current Athlete Development Director of the United States Curling Assocation, Ed Lukowich. We looked back on Ed’s competitive career and discussed his role with the USCA. And you won’t want to miss the very end of this interview — you might be a bit surprised to hear Ed’s feelings about some of the events that took place during that 1986 World Championship.

Colleen Jones Interview. May 30th, 2007

With her off-season announcement that she would be playing with a cross-country lineup, we decided to check in with Colleen Jones. The Queen of Hearts talks about the new rink, how it came together, this past season and the breakup of the team that won five Canadian titles.

There must be something about summer that brings a more languid pace to the show because this is another lengthy podcast. Take it to the beach on your MP3 player — so much better than reading crummy summer fiction.

Recapping the season with George Karrys. May 14th, 2007

A lengthy interview to help you avoid spring yard work, as curling media maven George Karrys got on the phone for our annual look back. We talk about the season that was, the road ahead for the sport (although this interview was recorded a couple of days before the announcement of the early exit of Dave Parkes) and even manage to add to the confusion surrounding Mixed Doubles.
